When is the application deadline? – The application package for our 2026-27 program is now available. The application period closes on June 1st. Participant selection will be conducted in June, and successful participants will receive their Acceptance Letters before June 30th.
How long is the program, and when does it start? – The program starts in September with a short orientation and a 2-day opening retreat. Our regular program days (‘Challenge Days’) are held on one Monday per month (9 am-4:30 pm) from October to June.
How much does it cost? – The tuition fee for our 10-month leadership program is $5,000. This fee includes over 93 hours of instruction as well as the cost of all resource materials and assessment tools, retreat accommodation, and meals and snacks at Challenge Days.
How many people do you accept each year? – We accept a maximum of 30 participants each year. Participants are selected based on the information provided in their application and by their two references. Leadership Saskatoon values diversity, and consideration is given to ensure the chosen candidates represent a variety of sectors, experiences, and backgrounds.
Who is a typical candidate for this program? – We have participants from all walks of life and all stages of their careers join the program. We aim for balanced representation from the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors within each class cohort. Our participants include new, aspiring, and experienced leaders from large organizations, various levels of government, academic institutions, and not-for-profit organizations, as well as entrepreneurs and business leaders. Leadership exists in many forms (hint: you don’t need direct reports at work to be a leader).
How do people fund their program tuition? – In a variety of ways. Most employers support their employees’ attendance, either in full or in part. Some participants self-fund, while others use external grant programs to cover their tuition fees.
Where can I find tuition support? – The Muttart Foundation offers grants for leadership training. These programs are external to Leadership Saskatoon and must be applied for separately. The Muttart Leadership Bursary is for individuals from registered charities who work in the fields of social services or early childhood education and care. You might also consider exploring your professional association or member organisation, Union resources, Band Council, etc., for funding opportunities.
I am applying for a Can-Sask job grant to support this training. What information do I need for my application? – NOTE: While the Can-Sask Job Grant has historically been a funding resource, the grant is currently closed and not an option for applicants.
The application form states that the Saskatoon Community Foundation (SCF) awards a bursary to one candidate each year. How do I apply? – Each year, the SCF provides funding to Leadership Saskatoon to support tuition for one participant in our 10-month leadership program. To be considered for this bursary, applicants must work in the charitable sector and clearly demonstrate a history of community involvement. If you are interested in being considered for this bursary, please complete this section of the Leadership Saskatoon application form.
When is tuition due? – If you are accepted into the Leadership Saskatoon program, tuition fees are due mid-August, before the program commences.
Is this program delivered in person? – Yes – wth occasional exceptions (i.e., going online) for inclement winter weather.
Is there an attendance requirement? – Yes. The program is highly experiential, and full attendance and participation are expected. The majority of the program takes place during regular work hours, so it is important that supervisors/managers of program applicants are fully aware and prepared to support the time commitment required. Read our attendance policy.
Do I get a credential? – Participants who successfully complete the Leadership Saskatoon program receive a certificate of completion from Leadership Saskatoon and the University of Saskatchewan.
I feel uncertain about applying to the program at this time. What does submitting an application commit me to? – Our team is here to address questions you have at any time. We also know that times of intense change can be a great opportunity to take stock of your growth opportunities. Submitting an application commits you to nothing other than an expression of interest in our program. If you are accepted as a candidate, our staff will be in touch about the next steps in June. Don’t be shy, apply!
